Matching the animal positions on Bert to the ceramic version of Endangered PJs |
Bristol Zoo WOW Gorillas project commemorates Bristol Zoo Gardens' 175th birthday. This blog is about Frances Cony's design ENDANGERED PJs. Her gorilla Bert is wearing pyjamas decorated with endangered animals. The 60 gorillas (63 now with the addition of Doris,Rafiki & King Kong Merrily on High) were around Bristol from 6 July - 7 September. 20 were at Queens Walk, More London from 16-23 September. ENDANGERED PJs was on the Bristol-Bath cyclepath at Bitton Station.
Frances thanks Mama Bear's Day Nursery for sponsoring her gorilla, and Burges Salmon who bought him at The Auction on 29 September 2011 for £6 500. I think he has gone to a good home!
I like your original design better, with the animal pattern closer together and with the text.
ReplyDeleteBut I suppose you need to match the ceramic version. Can there be a compromise somewhere between the two perhaps?
Hi June
ReplyDeleteThis is all in the past. This was ONLY the beginning.
I made 2 slightly different sizes of animal photocopies. I made at least 4 of each of the 2 sizes of each of the 13 animals - lots of cutting out and 6-7 hours of positioning.
The back and bottom are similar to the ceramic. There are more animals on the front as I thought the front was a bit sparse so I added half a Blue Whale! Bert's arms are longer than the ceramic's so there are a few more animals on them, spread out at a (hopefully) similar rate to the back.
Now that I've drawn all the animals and am halfway through painting them, I can tell you that there are 52 animals...and believe me, that is ENOUGH!
